Ms Cele is a Mandela Washington Alumni (2022) and Young African Leader (YALI 2022). She is a final year PhD candidate in Urban and Regional Planning specialising in Transport Planning. Her PhD research focuses on artificial intelligence to assess the quality of public transportation services, considering public transportation in Durban as case study. Nomfundo is recipient of the NRF Doctoral Scholarship in Innovation. Alongside her PhD supervisors and other team members in France and South Africa, she has been funded by the French and South Africa government to research on public transport service quality with the focus on machine learning technology to assess service quality. The project is called PercepTrans.

 

She has a MCom in Transport Economics, Honours BCom in Transport Economics, and a BCom in Transport Economics from the University of South Africa. Recently, Nomfundo completed in-person an intensive six week leadership in business training at the University of Texas, Austin, McComb School of Business. Also, enrolled at the School of Government for the SMS course as she aspires to work as a public servant leader.

 

Nomfundo is an alumni of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs. Recently, she participated in-person the 2022 European Innovation Academy Innovation bootcamp. An entrepreneurship and leadership bootcamp.

 

As interim KZN BOSA youth leader Nomfundo has demonstrated skill and competence in leadership as well as a city and transport professional.
