2020 to date: Professor of Innovation and Sustainable Development at the DSI/NRF/Newton Fund Trilateral Research Chair in Transformative Innovation, 4IR and Sustainable Development

- Research science, technology and innovation’s (STI) ability to promote sustainable development, with a special focus on the application of innovation systems concepts in emerging economies.  Sectoral foci on health, (renewable) energy and STI policy

- Setting up new training programmes at the interface of innovation and sustainable development to strengthen innovation studies in Africa for Africa.

Also:

- Non Resident Fellow at the African Centre for Technology Studies (Kenya) where I run the organisation's support to the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) and manage the AfricaLics Secretariat

- Director of two consulting companies engaged in reserach, policy, practice and project management advice and support in areas of STI policy and practice, energy, extractives, infrastructure and transport/ logistics.
