Dr Lewu is a senior researcher in the Soil and Water Science Programme, Arc Infruitec-Nietvoorbij, Stellenbosch, South Africa. She had her academic background in Agriculture and Botany, and obtained her PhD in Botany in 2010 from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. The PhD study centered on different cultivars of an indigenous species of energy crop (Colocasia esculenta). She started her career as in Agriculture with the International Funding for Agricultural Development (SSADP/IFAD) Sokoto State, Nigeria (1998-1999). She later joined the Botany Dept. of University of Zululand as a lecturer (July 2011-June 2012). In July 2012, she joined Cape Peninsula University of Technology as a Postdoctoral fellow in the Dept. of Horticulture (July 2012-January 2014). She was also a part-time lecturer in Cape Institute of Agricultural Training, Elsenburg, Western Cape (February 2013- June 2013). Dr Lewu Has handled many projects in her capacity as a project leader, and also recieved research funding worth several millions of Rands from funders like WRC, NRF and DSI. 

Dr Lewu has trained and still training several Post Graduate students, with several peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals. She has presented her research findings in local and international conferences. Dr Lewu is a member of scientific bodies such as SOMPED and SACNASP (Pr.Sci.Nat.). Cummulatively, she has over 10 years experience in both research and teaching which cut accross three Universities in South Africa as well as in a national Research Institute.
