Heila Lotz-Sisitka is a Distinguished Professor of Education and a Tier 1 South African National Research Foundation/Department of Science and Technology Chair in Global Change and Social Learning Systems at Rhodes University, South Africa. Her research focuses on transformative social learning and green skills learning pathways in areas of biodiversity, the water-food nexus, climate change, social and environmental justice, and just sustainability transitions. The author of over 175 peer reviewed publications, Prof Lotz-Sisitka has 27 years of experience in leading co-engaged research and teaching in the fields of environmental and sustainability education. She has extensive experience leading various national and international community-engaged research programmes and partnerships and has raised over ZAR 100M in R&D funding as PI and CoI. She holds a B2 National Research Foundation Rating, which is defined as “a researcher who enjoys considerable international recognition by their peers for the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs”, the second highest rating available. She is recpient of a number of awards, including the Rhodes University’s Vice Chancellor’s (VC) Teaching Award, the VC Community Engagement Award (twice), and the VC Senior Researcher Award. She has also received field-based recognition, e.g. the Gold Award from the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa, and is a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).
