Dr Peace Mabeta is a Medical Scientist and an Associate Professor of Physiology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. The overarching goal of my research is to elucidate of mechanisms of tumour vascularisation and to translate the knowledge generated to improve the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumours associated with impaired vascularisation. To attain this goal, her laboratory has optimised various models, including co-cultures of tumour and stromal cells, 3-D cultured human biopsies and a syngeneic mouse model. These models have been employed to study the expression of markers and to test various drugs and novel compounds. She has published extensively in scientific journals and co-authored 5 books. She has also served on the executive committees of various academic and science bodies, including the Science the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
