Previous International Roles: South African Representative on the Executive Board of UNESCO; Vice President for Scientific Planning and Review of the International Council for Science (ICSU);  Board of Directors of SciDev.Net and START International; Facilitator of the process that led to the merger of ICSU and the International Social Sciences Council (ISSC) to create the International Science Council (ISC) in 2018; Chairperson of the Task Force on the repurposing of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
