Udochukwu B. Akuru received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from the University of Nigeria in August 2008 and June 2013, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, in December 2017. He held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Stellenbosch University, in 2018 and 2019, and worked as lecturer at University of Nigeria from 2011 to 2019. He is currently senior lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. His core research interests are in electrical power engineering, renewable energy technologies and circular economy. He has published widely and acts as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences. He has participated in national, regional and international research and development projects with organizations such as GET/DAAD, UNIDO, GDN, DAAD, The World Bank and REN21, to mention a few. He is also a recipient of several grants and awards, including the prestigious Jorma Luomi Student Forum Award in 2018 and TWAS-DFG Research Fellowship in 2020. Dr Akuru is a Registered Engineer of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN); a Senior Member of IEEE and SAIEE; a South Africa National Research Foundation (NRF)-Rated Researcher; and volunteer to various societies, committees and groups. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS and current Chairperson for IEEE South Africa Section.
