Dr. Ali Al-Sawalmih is the director of the Marine Science Station (MSS) in Aqaba, Jordan, where he also holds the position of associate professor in marine sciences. Previously, he was an adjunct researcher at the Max Planck Institute MPIKG in Germany, where he gained five years of experience as a researcher specializing in marine calcification. Dr. Al-Sawalmih is also a board member of the Red Sea Reef Foundation in New York, USA. He pursued his higher education at highly-reputed research institutes in Germany, earning his PhD from the Max Planck Institute MPI-E in Düsseldorf in 2007 and his MSc from the Max Planck Institute MPI-FKF in Stuttgart in 2004. Dr. Al-Sawalmih has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has served as a reviewer for many others. His research interests focus on science diplomacy, coastal management, climate change, and marine pollution. His work primarily emphasizes the role of sustainable coastal development in mitigating the negative impacts of global warming on marine ecosystems.
