Alexei has a broad skill and academic background encompassing legal, professional standards, compliance, economic and public sector focusses locally and on an international level. 

He started his career as a credit analyst focusing on development economics in the SMME sector. His love for law saw him graduating as an attorney of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces and he completed his legal articles at a small bespoke law firm in Pretoria. Alexei developed these legal and economic skills on an international level for over a decade when he was exposed to insolvency law, regulatory law and professional standards law. 

On his return to South Africa in 2011, he focused on compliance monitoring but quickly realized that the compliance environment constituted an enormous stumbling block to the growth of businesses. For this reason, he joined the Ease of Doing Business Unit in the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism to develop strategies and policies for creating an enabling business environment within the Western Cape. 

In November 2015, Alexei joined the Cape Catalyst Programme, also in the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism. He has, since joining this Programme, being managing various projects on design, innovation, project seed funding and stakeholder co-ordination. 

Innovation and design processes is a catalytic opportunity for the creation of job creation, economic growth and service delivery across both the private and public sectors in the Western Cape and Alexei continues to explore opportunities on how design and innovation can be better used by all stakeholders.
