Annegarn is a polymath who has contributed to fundamental & applied sciences in several disciplines. His PhD was in nuclear physics, whereafter he branched out to atmospheric chemistry, air pollution health effects & energy efficiency. He has published in diverse fields; atmosphere, climatology, remote sensing, geology, mining, science diplomacy & botany. He has risen to international prominence in several fields, hosting international projects & major conferences in nuclear physics, atmospheric chemistry, energy & remote sensing.

Annegarn has mentored 28 doctoral & 59 Masters graduates. Post 1994, he deliberately recruited students to address historical inequalities. He has supervised students from 13 African countries. Annegarn recognised satellite remote sensing as an emerging technology vital for African development & for African participation in globally significant science. Annegarn provided full financial support for his African students & post-doctoral fellows from research grants & earned income. In many case, mentorship continued beyond graduation, to assist students in launching their careers. His graduates have achieved prominence locally & internationally in academia, government & industry.
