Muhammad Ansar is working as Professor of Human Genetics at Department of Biochemistry, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad. Since 2003, he is exploring the genetics of inherited disorders like hearing impairment, intellectual disability and retinal dystrophies, which are quite common in the Pakistani population. He has completed a two-year Postdoctoral fellowship from Department of Molecular & Human Genetics, Baylor College of Medicine, USA, which allow him to learn and practice skills related to next generation sequencing and data analysis. Mr. Ansar is a member of Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Associate Secretary (Federal) of Pakistan Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB), and member of American Society of Human Genetics. He has received research productivity award for several years and has been awarded Pakistan Academy of Sciences gold medal in year 2010, Abdul Rauf Shakoori Gold Medal in Biological Sciences in year 2016. He also got a fellowship and TWAS travel grant to participate in Biovision 2011. He has been involved in the counseling of families with various inherited disorders. He has received three major research grants from Higher Education Commission, Pakistan along with an international collaborative award from National Institute of Health, USA. Dr Ansar has published more than 100 research papers in International peer-reviewed journals.
