Dr. Anywar Godwin holds a PhD (CARTA/DAAD fellow) from Makerere University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology, & the University of Leipzig, Germany. He lecturers at the department of Plant Sciences, Microbiology & Biotechnology, Makerere University. His research covers indigenous traditional knowledge, microbiology, neglected, underutilized and wild food plants, herbal medicine, ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, and pharmacognosy. He is a fellow of the: Global Young Academy, African Studies Association, Africa Science Leadership Programme and the Uganda National Academy of Sciences. He is a mentor with the International Network for Government Science Advice. He is a member of the several professional bodies including the: Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research, International Society for Ethnopharmacology, American Society of Pharmacognosy, African Phytomedicine Scientific Society, International Society for Ethnobotany, and American Association for the Advancement of Science among others. He has received several awards including the Young Investigator Fellowship Award (19th International Congress of the International Society of Ethnopharmacology, Germany, 2019), the Vice Chancellors Research Excellence Award, 2024, and the Young Scientist Award in Phytochemicals & Medicinal Plants, 2024 by the Society for Plant Research. He doubles as the vice president of the Natural Products Network for Eastern & Central Africa (NAPRECA), Uganda Chapter and the Uganda Textbook Academic & Non-Fiction Writers Association (UTANA). He serves on the editorial boards of several international peer-reviewed journals, is a reviewer for over 30 journals and has published over 90 research papers
