Zsuzsa Bagoly obtained a medical doctor degree at the University of Debrecen (2004), later a PhD degree (2008) and is specialized in clinical laboratory medicine (EuSpLM, 2011). During her university studies, she was a Marie Curie Fellow for 12 months at the Mario Negri Sud Institute in Italy. She is currently an associate professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, University of Debrecen, where she is actively involved in research, teaching and clinical diagnostics/patient care. Her area of research is thrombosis and hemostasis, with a special interest in clinical studies on the field of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, particularly stroke. She is the author of more than 60 publications and 9 book chapters, with ~2500 citations and a total impact factor of >250.
She has received a number of highly recognized national and international awards, including the Lajos Szodoray Prize of the University of Debrecen (2011–2017), János Bolyai Research Fellowship (2011–18), L’Oreal UNESCO For Women in Science Award (2020), Pfizer UpJohn Metrodora Award by the International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (2020), Kálmán Pándy Prize of the Hungarian Society of Laboratory Medicine (2021), Female Researcher of the Year, by the University of Debrecen (2021).
She is involved in several grants as a Lead or Co-Investigator. She is actively involved in teaching and supervising graduate-level and post-doctoral researchers, she has mentored more than 25 graduate-level and 3 PhD students.
Among her elected roles in national scientific organizations, she is currently the President of the Hungarian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis an Executive Board Member and the Hungarian Society of Laboratory Medicine (2018–2023). Her most important international elected roles: European Congress on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (ECTH) Board member (2022–), Chair of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Factor XIII and Fibrinogen Scientific and Standardization Committee (2024-), an advisory board member and later full member of European Hematology Association (EHA) Scientific Program Committee (2018–2024), Council Member of the International Fibrinogen Research Society (Class of 2025). She has been active as an organizer, scientific committe member, session chair, and invited speaker at a number of national and international congresses.
She is married with three children: Dávid (2012), Laura (2015), Zorka (2015).
