Dr. Katy Brewer
Postdoctoral Fellow / Researcher, University of California, Berkeley
CV
Katy Brewer has a PhD in biochemistry, a prolific publication record and over 10 years of experience in biomedical science. Her research has focused on the mechanisms of rare genetic epilepsies, glial biology and brain metabolism. She worked as a Marie Curie COFUND postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Barcelona, Spain, and is currently finishing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley.
Katy has a growing interest in science policy and science diplomacy. Specifically, she is interested in how the US and Europe differ in research landscape, open science, funding structures, pandemic response, and science-based policymaking, and how these regions can learn from each other. She is also increasingly concerned about sustainability and climate action—and how we must use science to address climate change, but also make scientific research more sustainable. She is also urgently concerned about global development and collective progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
