Professor Suranjan Das, currently Vice-Chancellor of Adamas University, Kolkata, was earlier Professor of History, Calcutta University, Kolkata, and Vice-Chancellor of two front-ranking public universities of India: the Calcutta University and Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He is also Honorary Visiting Professor at Exeter University, UK.
Holder of a D. Phil from Oxford University, Suranjan specialises in South Asian History, especially identity politics, nation building and medical history. He has authored six monographs, co-authored five books, edited/co-edited ten volumes, and published thirty-nine articles in refereed journals and edited volumes, which are widely cited. He has been also associated with research projects funded by such international bodies as the Wellcome Trust, Leverhume Foundation and Frederick Stiftung and British Council. A recipient of the prestigious United States Information Service International Visitorship Programme, he was elected a Fellow of Royal Asiatic Society, London, on 29 July 2024.
Professor Das has received national and international awards and has been a Visiting Scholar to institutions across the globe. He has been a member of official delegations to international Education Summits and continues to be associated with policy formulation bodies concerning India’s higher education.
