Professor Jonathan Dawes is a mathematician, international adviser and consultant, and research leader. His research areas include mathematical biology, machine learning, and complex systems. Current projects include using network science to understand interlinkages within the Sustainable Development Goals. He is currently an adviser to the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC, part of UKRI) and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Recent advisory roles included the G20-S20 Engagement group, and the Royal Academy of Engineering for their Safer Complex Systems programme.

 

He was Co-founder, and then Director (2015-2020), of the University of Bath's Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI, imibath.ac.uk/ ), realising his strategic vision for better collaboration between mathematical sciences, other academic disciplines, and external partners. Through numerous collaborations, IMI's work has contributed to 60 high-quality journal publications and impact in fields from political science to orthopaedics.

 

His personal portfolio includes consultancy work for industrial and non-profit organisations from UNICEF to local engineering firms.
