PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universitat Hannover (1989) with a fellowship for DAAD (Deuscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). Post-doc researcher at the Institut fuer Angewandte Mechanik of the Brunswick University in Germany (1992) and (2005). Since 2005 full professor at the Deparment of Computational Mechanics (DMC) of the School of Mechanical Engineering (FEM) at the State University at Campinas (UNICAMP). At Unicamp head of the Department for Computational Mechanics (DMC) for two periods: (1991-1992) and (1994-1996), advisor to the Vice-President Research at Unicamp (1996-1998), coordinator of the graduate program at the School of Mechanical Engineering at Unicamp (2001-2002). From 2009 through 2013 VP-Graduate at UNICAMP under the administration of Prof. Fernando Costa. He is a CNPq research fellowship recipient since 1990. At CAPES he was part of the comission that elaborated the National Graduate Plan PNPG (2011-202), member of the comission that analyzed and evaluated the Brazilian National Graduate System (2015-2016) and he was also part of the Special Advisor Group (GAE) to the Director of International Relations (2015-2019). Member of the Engineering Coordination I at FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) form 2008 through 2016. Member of the Adjunct Panel (Special Programs and Research Collaborations) at FAPESP since 2016. Member of the EMI-ASCE (Engineering Mechanics Institute-American Society of Civil Engineers) Elasticity Committee since October 2008. Chair of the EMI-ASCE Elasticity Committee from October 2013 to October 2015. Vice president of the Regional Leaders Summit Consortium (2019-2020). Starting September 2022 Executive Secretary of the Global Research Council -GRC.
