Prof. Eucharia Oluchi Nwaichi is an esteemed environmental biochemist and university professor known for her pioneering contributions to sustainability, science policy, and research commercialization. As the 191st Inaugural Lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, her lecture, Science and Sustainability: Pioneering a Greener Future, highlighted the critical intersection between science and policy in addressing environmental challenges. She is a recipient of the 2022 John Maddox Prize, in recognition of her courage in advocating for evidence-based science and public health. Prof. Nwaichi’s research focuses on phytoremediation, environmental toxicology, and soil and water quality, and she actively collaborates on international projects aimed at optimizing sustainable solutions for pollution control and energy efficiency.
Currently chairing the Triple Helix Nigeria SciBiz Annual Conference 2024, Prof. Nwaichi is dedicated to fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and government to bridge the gap between research and policy. Her work has had a significant impact on the development of science-based policies across Africa, particularly in promoting green skills and empowering the next generation of innovators. She is also deeply involved in mentoring and capacity-building efforts in science communication and policy translation.
