TIBOR FARAGÓ

Research areas: global environmental hazards, programmes and agreements; science and policy interface: climate change; sustainable development.
He graduated as a mathematician, holds academic degree CSc in geographic sciences. He deals primarily with the above themes since late 1980s and was involved in internat’l science and policy cooperation for many years (UN Env. Prog.; UN Framework Convention on Climate Change also as first chairman of sci. advisory body; Intergov. Panel on Climate Change; UN Commission for Sust. Development.
Memberships: Hungary Academy of Sci. (its public body and a scientific cmte); Expert Cmte of National Sust. Dev. Council; UN Assoc. of Hungary; National IPCC Cmte; National Society of Conservationists; formerly: Commission of Env. Science of the Hungarian Academy of Sci.; Stockholm Env. Institute’s Global Scenario Group; US/NCAR: Env. and Social Impacts Group; Dutch Env. Prog.: internat’l review team; Climate Institute (Washington D.C.).
His awards include: Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (2008); Cross of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (2004); Award for the Environment (2003); Steiner Lajos and Róna Zsigmond Awards (1995, 1985) by Hungarian Met. Society; Farkas Gyula Award by Bolyai János Math. Society (1976). He is author of many publications in environment and sustainability related topics, including the recently published books on environmental globalization.
