Professor Javier García-Martínez is a world-renowned chemist whose pioneering contributions to sustainable energy and chemical production have had a significant global impact. His development and commercialization of a novel family of catalysts, now widely used in laboratories and chemical companies, has significantly reduced CO2 emissions worldwide.
During his tenure as IUPAC President, the candidate demonstrated exceptional leadership by spearheading a major reorganization that streamlined the organization's operations. He has played a key role in establishing standards for digital data and developing chemical nomenclature tailored for AI applications in science and technology. He co-founded the Young Academy of Spain and served as its president until May 2024.
Since 2009, Professor Javier García-Martínez has been a member of the World Economic Forum, serving both in the Global Agenda Council and Expert Network. His significant contributions to the World Economic Forum, including to the Top Ten Emerging Technologies report, led him to become Vice Chair of the Emerging Technologies Council.
He has collaborated with leading scientific advisory bodies, including SAPEA, ALLEA, YASAS, and EASAC. His extensive involvement with organizations such as OECD, OPCW, and UNESCO has broadened his network and deepened his expertise in science policy and diplomacy.
He is Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC) and former member of the Global Young Academy (GYA)
