Dr Asma Gul is a Professor of biology and Dean faculty of Sciences at International Islamic University (IIUI). Her research interests are Psychoneuroimmunology, cancer genetics and Human Molecular genetics. She is heading the Molecular oncology research lab (MORL). MORL focuses on understanding genetic and epigenetic causes of cancer by uniquely remaining rooted in the philosophical tradition of biology. She is particularly interested in studying molecular and histological pathogenesis of Hepatocellular carcinoma through the development of in vitro and in vivo tumor models. These models are being characterized and used to elucidate cross talk between genetic and histological signatures. This in turn contributes to the development of relational rather than reductionist understanding of disease which is quintessential to the nature of life itself. She is the strong advocate for equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI) in the research environment. She is the recipient of “Excellent Leadership Award” that is awarded to accomplished scientists who are actively involved in social work.
