László Hunyady is Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea, Professor of Physiology, and the Director of the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, HUN-REN Research Centre for Natural Sciences. Between 2005-2021 he was the director of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Semmelweis University. He was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2006-2012), the Vice-Rector of Semmelweis University (2012-2013) and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2013-2019). He is a member of the Nominations Committee of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE). He was the Secretary General (2006-2010) and the President (2010-2014) of the Hungarian Physiological Society. Between 2018-2021 he was the Vice President of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) and at the same time President of its Committee for Medical and Health Sciences and the College for University Professor Applications. From 2021 he is the President of the Research Institute Evaluation Council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

His main research interests are the signaling and regulation of G protein-coupled receptors, including the AT1 angiotensin receptor, which is a main target of hypertension therapy. He published 157 papers and 4 book chapters. His publications have been cited more than 8.000 times (H-index: 50). He was the invited speaker of numerous Hungarian and international conferences, and editorial board member of international scientific journals. For his scientific achievements he has received the Széchenyi Prize State Award (2018). In 2021 he was selected to be an inaugural member of the IUPS Academy of Physiology established by the International Union of Physiological Sciences.
