Toshiyasu ICHIOKA is Director for RIKEN Europe Office established in Brussels in 2018 to enhance RIKEN’s research capacity and visibility through collaborative research and innovation with European partners and beyond. Prior to joining RIKEN in November 2018, he worked at Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and developed JST’s overall international strategy. He also worked for the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial cooperation, where he was responsible for the promotion of EU-Japan cooperation in science, technology and innovation and established the Japanese National Contact Point for EU Framework Programmes among others. His earlier roles include project management at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (ES) and scientific research at various research institutions: University of Latvia (LV), Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics (DE), Aarhus University (DK), CERN (CH), and RIKEN (JP). He holds PhD and MSc in Multi-Disciplinary Sciences from the University of Tokyo (JP) and BSc in Physics from Kyoto University (JP).
