Alik Ismail-Zadeh is Senior Research Fellow / Research Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He has been a scholar/invited professor at several academic institutions including the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (Azerbaijan), Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (France), Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Italy), U. Trieste (Italy), U. Tokyo (Japan), Russian Academy of Sciences (Russia), KTH Stockholm (Sweden), U. Uppsala (Sweden), U. Cambridge (UK), and U. California Los Angeles (USA).

His scientific interests cover geophysics, mathematical geosciences, computational methods, natural hazards, and disaster risks. He is principal (co)author of over 150 peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters, four special issues, and six books. Alik have been serving the Internaitonal Science Council (ISC) as inaugural Secretary (2018-2021), Chair of the Award Committee (2020-2021) and a senior adviser to the Governing Board (2022-). He was Secretary-General of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG, 2007-2019), and served on advisory committees of several professional, international and intergovernmental organizations including the American Geophysical Union (AGU), CTBTO, European Geosciences Union, EuroScience, GEO, UNDRR, and UNESCO. He is a Member of Academia Europaea, Fellow of AGU, ISC, IUGG and the Royal Astronomical Society, and honored by several prestigious awards.
