- Professor Raz Jelinek holds the Carole and Barry Kaye Chair in Applied Science at Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva, Israel and is also currently the Vice President and Dean for Research & Development. He holds a BSc in chemistry (summa cum Laude) from the Hebrew University and a PhD (Chemistry) from the University of California, Berkeley. Following his PhD studies, he was a recipient of a Cancer Research Institute post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania after which he joined the faculty of the Department of Chemistry at Ben Gurion University. Raz has been prolific in his studies, authoring more than 235 peer-reviewed scientific publications and writing 4 textbooks. Prof. Jelinek has been awarded prestigious grant awards such as the Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP), supporting the diverse research directions. Raz’s research has also generated more than 15 patents and patent applications in diverse fields, including gas sensors, probiotic therapeutic molecules, supercapacitors, and others. Based on his research discoveries, Raz co-founded two startup companies in the past few years. He has won several prestigious awards, including the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service, Senior Fellowship Award, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Toronto Prize for Research Excellence, Ben-Gurion University, and the ICS-Adama Prize for Technological Innovation, the Israel Chemical Society.
