Graduated from ELTE University, Budapest, teaching position in linguistics from 1971 at U of Szeged, Professor since 1992, vice-rector for research and grants until 2000, chair of Graduate School in Linguistics, emeritus since 2017. Director of Research Institute for Linguistics at Hungarian Academy of Sciences between 2002 and 2017. author and editor of several books, including a reference grammar of Hungarian (Routledge, London), and the book series Approached to Hungarian (John Benjamins, Amsterdam), as well as Comprehensive Grammar Resources (U of Amsterdam Press). Professor of Linguistics at U of Delaware, Visiting Professor at U Utrecht, Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris), U Venezia, U Deusto (Bilbao), U Durham. Member of Academia Europaea and Hungarian academy of Sciences.
