Dr Jasmine Khairat

Dr. Jasmine Khairat is a virologist and senior lecturer at the Institute of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science in Universiti Malaya, specializing in host-pathogen interactions and antiviral studies, particularly RNA viruses. She is a TWAS-UNESCO Advanced Research Training Fellow and actively contributes to the scientific community through organizations like the World Society for Virology & Joint Academic Microbiology Society (JAMS). During the COVID-19 pandemic, she co-founded the Sci-Echos podcast to enhance public understanding of science and actively communicated scientific information to the public through various media platforms, including national and international media outlets. Dr. Jasmine has also written op-ed pieces for various publications, disseminating scientific knowledge to a wider audience. She has been awarded fellowships with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), focusing on global health challenges, and is a dedicated mentor to the next generation of scientists. Additionally, she has served as the Chair for the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), demonstrating her commitment to safety and ethical practices in research.
