Haseena Khan is an UGC Professor (a position given to a select few professors after their retirement by the University Grants Commission) at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and Secretary, The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. She has been working on jute molecular biology for over 25 years and had been involved with the jute genome initiative from Bangladesh, the first mega genome sequencing project of the country. At present her interest lies on applications of jute fibre which her lab has genetically modified to produce less lignin, understanding biotic stress tolerance in jute and elucidating the vast myriad of endophytic microorganisms in this fibre crop which have plant growth promotion and biocontrol properties. She is now serving as the Secretary of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (https://www.bas.org.bd/) and has contributed significantly to the promotion of science and technology in Bangladesh, thus complementing/supplementing the Government of Bangladesh’s efforts in this direction.

Prof Haseena Khan has over the years received numerous national and international research grants and has established a good molecular biology and omics lab (https://www.molbiolab.du.ac.bd/) at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka.
