I am currently working as a trainee patent examiner at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). During the tenure of the internship, I have been trained to assess the patentability of inventions and provide opinions of validity of granted patents. My knowledge in the field of IP has been sharpened by means of recognized extensive training programmes under the European Patent Office, Patent Attorneys Examination Board, and World Intellectual Property Organization.

In my patent examiner role, I have exercised a methodical approach to problem solving. I am independently motivated, yet I appreciate team efforts and collaboration within groups. Additionally, I am knowledgeable in Intellectual Property Management with proficiency in patent search and examination.

Prior to joining the IP field, I specialized in Biochemistry (nanoparticles and their potential as antimicrobial agents). I hold a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of KwaZulu Natal. The work conducted during my MSc has been presented at the South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Conference held on 10-18 July 2016 in East London SA. I have also worked as a candidate water quality scientist at Rand water.
