Irene Kimani is attached to the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department at the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) headquarters as an ICT Specialist and Data Manager. Irene Kimani is the Secretary to the CODATA Agricultural Task Group (Committee on Data of the International Council for Science) in France. Irene has expertise in the ICT field, Data Science, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and research informatics. She has in-depth knowledge and expertise in ICT field and designed and implemented ICT projects successfully at KALRO and with collaborators. She is at the forefront in championing open data and ICT policies for innovation and development. As lead in making data work for farmers and key stakeholders in agricultural sector; she has brought transformative change by digitization and innovations to increase agricultural research knowledge access and utilization. Successful initiatives include development of a Country wide 2.15 million Database. The farmers have access to agricultural extension services and weather intelligence. Digitization of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for over 100 value chains downscaled and uploaded on mobile and web platforms. She has presented papers on Open Data and its Relevance in Agricultural Research: at various forums.
