Charlene graduated with a BSc (Honours) and MSc majoring in Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape. Thereafter, she continued her postgraduate studies at Stellenbosch University and graduated with a PhD in Physiological Sciences majoring in metabolic syndrome, diabetes and acute heart failure. She is currently employed as Research and Development Manager is actively involved in all major projects, regulatory affairs, grant applications and development of new products.
