James Robin King is Director of IIE’s Scholar Rescue Fund, the only global program that arranges, funds, and supports fellowships for threatened and displaced scholars at partnering higher education institutions worldwide, including inside their home regions. Since its inception in 2002, IIE-SRF has supported more than 1,100 scholars from 62 countries, placing them in temporary positions at over 500 institutions in 59 countries. King is a former Fulbright fellow in Jordan and holds an M.A. in Islamic studies from Columbia University. He has published extensively on Yemen and is the co-author of two studies published by IIE and the University of California, Davis that focused on Syrian refugee access to higher education in Lebanon and Turkey. Prior to joining IIE-SRF in 2011, King worked on a state stabilization initiative in Yemen and on a project to measure the quality of governance within Muslim-majority states.
