Dr. Ourania “Rania” Kosti is the acting executive director of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), based at the Secretariat office hosted by the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC. Dr. Kosti’s expertise is in radiation health effects and emergency preparedness and response. She is a founding member of the International Society of Radiation Epidemiology and Dosimetry (ISoRED) that focuses on capacity building and training for the next generation of radiation epidemiologists, statisticians, and dosimetrists and on promoting international collaborations. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, where she conducted research on biomarker development for early cancer detection. Dr. Kosti also trained at the National Cancer Institute (2005–2007). She received a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom; an M.S. in molecular medicine from the University College London; and a Ph.D. in molecular endocrinology from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, United Kingdom.
