I am a Medical Doctor at the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) in Mali since 2002. I supported my PhD in Parasitology-Medical Entomology in 2017 and the topic was on molecular investigation of drug resistance used in seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC). I was in the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) of Luxembourg, where I was granted a one-year WHO/TDR fellowship to receive training in clinical data management and statistical processes. My goal was to be part of a new generation of researcher who has experience and knowledge on laboratory, field studies, data management and statistics. In February 2019, I joined the LMIV research group, NIH under the supervision of Dr Patrick Duffy with sponsorship from the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI), as Post doctorate. US-NIH, AAS, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation support this program. My main goal at the LMIV was to receive training in order to monitor the drug resistance and I developed a new method of drug resistance by bioinformatics approach. Our new technique offers practical advantages that can be applied meaningfully to the laboratory activities, and providing a simplified model using assays to conduct surveillance for drug-resistant of malaria in Africa. Our results demonstrated an effective approach for population- based surveys that characterize mixed infections, and thereby may provide an earlier signal to public health officials. This APTI program will allow me to develop my career and become an independent researcher and contribute to the training of young scientists in Africa. Now I am at INSP (Mali) to establish my lab and trainee the young Malian scientists.
