Brian Mantlana leads the climate change team at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The scope of work for the CSIR climate change team covers long-term monitoring of CO2 fluxes in terrestrial ecosytems (savanna woodland) and in the Southern Ocean, compilation of GHG invetories and impact of mitigation actions, climate risks, vulnerability and adaptation and national and international climate change policy. His main responsibilities are management of the research team and business development for and with the team. Brian Mantlana  worked for six years as a research scientist at the South African National Biodiversity Institute and for six years as a Chief Director at the Department of Environmental Affairs (leading the work on climate change monitoring and evaluation). He supervises Ph.D and M.Sc students. He has written more than 20 peer-reviewed publications. He is one of the commissioners in the Presidential Climate Change Commission.
