Chérif F. Matta, B.Pharm.Sci. (Alexandria Univ.), Dipl. (Sadat Acad.), PhD (McMaster Univ.), HDR (Univ. de Lorraine), FRSA, FRSB, FInstP, FRSC, FAAS, FAAAS, is a Professor of Chemistry & Physics at Mount Saint Vincent University and an Honorary Professor at Dalhousie, Laval, and Saint Mary’s Universities. He is currently a Visiting Scientist at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques  in France. After completing his PhD under Richard F. W. Bader at McMaster University, he held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto (with Nobel Laureate John C. Polanyi) and Dalhousie University. His research spans quantum chemistry, theoretical astrochemistry, and mitochondrial biophysics. Matta has delivered over 250 lectures in 30+ countries and has around 200 publications, including four books. He has received numerous awards, including the Polish Ministry of Science's “Distinguished Visiting Professor” (2022–2023), the Science Atlantic Speaker of the Year (2021–2022), and his 2017 university’s Award for Research Excellence. Prof. Matta is an elected Fellow of: American Association for the Advancement of Science, African Academy of Sciences, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics, Royal Soc. of Biology, and others. He has served in various prominent roles, including Chair of the Interdisciplinary Adjudication Committee of the Canada Research Chairs Programme and Member of the Commission for Quantum Crystallography of the International Union of Crystallography.
