Rudzani Nemutudi obtained his PhD in Semiconductor Physics in 2001 at the University of Cambridge, Cavendish Laboratory in the United Kingdon (UK). His materials research background and experience spans a wide range of Solid State Physics fields, including thin film analysis usion accelerator-based ion beam analytical techniques, material characterization using proximal probe microscopic tecniques, mesoscopic device fabrication using local anodic oxidation lithography, and electron transport measurements at cryogenic temperatures on low dimensional quantum channels and quantum dots fabricated with an atomic force microscope (AFM) on MBE (Molecular Beam Epitaxy)-grown group II-V semiconducting materials such as gallium-arsenide (GaAs) and aluminum gallium-arsenide (AlGaAs).  Nemutudi currently serves as the Deputy Director at NRF:iThemba LABS, a portfolia in charge and responsible for Training, International Relations and Institutional Performance. Nemutudi also serves as the Associate Secretary General of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), and is a member of the Executive Council of the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP). Nemutudi has in the past also served in a number of boards as a non-executive independent director, including the board of NMISA (National Metrology Institute of South Africa) and the National South African board of the then ICSU ( International  Council of Science), currently ISC (International Science Council).
