Prof Farai Nyabadza is currently a Professor and Head of Department, at the University of Johannesburg. His Mathematical career started at the University of Zimbabwe and did his PhD at the University of Botswana, being the first doctoral student in the Mathematics department then. He is passionate about Mathematical modelling and in particular modelling infectious diseases, crime, substance abuse, and systems thinking dynamics. He is a former President of the Southern Africa Mathematical Sciences Association and has held many positions in international bodies. He is an academic mentor (having supervised 57 MSc students and 12 doctoral students), a researcher, an author, a facilitator, and a motivational speaker.
