Estefania Ortiz Calva is Senior Program Associate for International Affairs and Science Diplomacy. She supports development and expansion of international relationships and programs, with an emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean. She develops science diplomacy trainings, manages the AAAS David and Betty Hamburg Award for Science Diplomacy, and oversees the editorial process for the journal Science & Diplomacy, a publication by the AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy.

An international affairs professional, her career has focused on promoting international cooperation, particularly between the U.S. and Latin America. Before joining AAAS, Estefania was an Analyst at the Congressional Affairs Office at the Embassy of Mexico to the U.S. Previously, she interned at the Inter-American Dialogue and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime liaison office in New York.  

She holds a master’s in Security Policy Studies with a focus in Security and Development from the George Washington University, where she belonged to the first generation of Slim Scholars. She is originally from Mexico, where she studied International Relations at ITAM.
