I am a Sudanese early career researcher dedicated to protecting human rights by studying tropical diseases and diseases of poverty. My interest is identifying ways to combat global inequality using science and scientific thinking. My passion for science developed out of a desire to combat inequality I witnessed in Sudan and where I studied in the United States. I studied Physiology & Neurobiology (B.S., 2017) at the University of Maryland, working as an undergraduate in laboratories focused on studying tropical diseases. I trained in political science research writing for my honors thesis on the increasing political polarization present in the United States.  After completing my degree, I pursued my graduate education at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, studying novel targets for antimalarials as a Gates-Cambridge Scholar. During my graduate education, I developed an appreciation for the importance of implementation research and public health and returned to Sudan to be involved in the social & health challenges the people are facing during this turbulent time. I have been volunteering as a researcher with the Sudanese National Academy of Sciences participating in public health research projects. I also work in promoting educational opportunities that help young people overcome the barriers created by socio-economic circumstances. I have worked with organizations in Honduras and Sudan in building schools in remote impoverished areas.
