Chisomo is a Doctoral student in the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics at the university of Cape Town (UCT). He has a master’s degree in architectural studies and is a registered architect with SACAP. Chisomo is the resident PhD student with the Livable Neighbourhoods (LN) research project, involved in ES and BAS courses as a facilitator.

Chisomo is deeply interested in social problems and the identity of African architecture in a post-industrial age. This has guided his research interests into water and sustainable practice. Chisomo believes a true African future is a sustainable African future. There is health, wealth and wellbeing in how we consider and develop modern attitudes to water and our environment.

Chisomo aims to complete his PhD around the question of water sensitive design (WSD) and the role it can play in developing an inclusive architectural approach. Work with the Livable Neighbourhoods research project has allowed a broader perspective. With the LN team, Chisomo has engaged communities in participatory action research and interviewed experts in the field. The aim is to uncover lessons that broaden our perspective of Water sensitive design, rethinking our process to embody water resilience into built form.
