Dr. Piyawattanametha received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, in 2004. From 2005 to 2010, he was a research associate with the Bio-X Program, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA. Currently, he is a professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and a Head of the Advanced Imaging Research (AIR) Center, School of Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Bangkok, Thailand. In 2010, he co-founded and served as an executive member of the Global Young Academy (GYA) based in Halle, Germany. In 2013, he was selected by the World Economic Forum, Geneva, Switzerland, to be one of the 40 top scientists. In 2014, he received the prestigious Fraunhofer-Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Berlin, Germany. He has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor, Institute for Quantitative Health Sciences & Engineering, Michigan State University, Michigan, USA, since 2018. In 2021, he was elevated to the SPIE Fellow Status. He was selected to serve as a committee member on Addressing Inaccurate and Misleading Information, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Washington, DC, USA. In 2022, he was selected to serve as a Senior Editor of the IEEE Photonics Letters. Over the past decade, he has established the Optical Preclinical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence-based Point-of-Care Diagnosis systems Center for low-resource settings, which has been supported by international agencies such as the World Health Organization and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and served as a principal investigator of the Center.
