Rajan Pokhrel is the editor of ‘The Himalayan Times’, Nepal’s no. 1 English daily and the president of Nepal Forum of Science Journalists (NFSJ). He completed masters in population studies from the Tribhuvan University and MA in Journalism from Purvanchal University in Nepal. Being one of the founding members of NFSJ, he is instrumental in launching a number of science communication activities in Nepal. He is one of the mentors of the Himalayan Climate Boot Camp, which was successfully conducted in the Mt Everest region, with the support from Spark Grant Initiative of the World Federation of Science Journalists, in 2022. After joining ‘The Himalayan Times’ in 2003, he has written many articles covering science, environment, aviation and tourism issues. Under his leadership, NFSJ has now been holding a series of science communication programmes in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organistation and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development in Nepal. Besides, he has also been teaching journalism and mass communication to the Bachelor’s level students at Golden Gate International College as a part time lecturer. He has attended a number of journalism conferences and media events in Europe and Asia. He has also been selected by the United States for a month-long Edward R Murrow Programme for Journalists in 2008.
