Melvinas has worked as a photojournalist and writer in the media for more than 15 years and was two times trusted to be the Chair of the Indonesian Photojournalist – Pekanbaru. His photographic works have been published both nationally and internationally. Apart from taking pictures, he also often writes articles, especially those related to the environment and socio-culture.

He is an alumnus of the Science Journalism COOperation (SjCOOP) Asia program created by the World Federation of Science Journalists which focuses on developing the quality of science journalists in various countries. And then became one of the founding members of the Society of Indonesian Science Journalists (SISJ).

In 2023, Melvinas was elected as Executive Director SISJ for the next three years
