Professor Heidi Prozesky is an associate professor at CREST, which is located at Stellenbosch University and hosts the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics and STI Policy (SciSTIP). She holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies, on the topic of gender differences in the publication productivity of South African scientists.

To date, she has published 35 peer-reviewed outputs in journals, edited collections and conference proceedings; contributed to approximately 20 contract and technical reports; and presented close to 80 papers at national and international conferences, workshops and seminars. More than 20 doctoral and master’s students have completed their studies under her supervision.

During the past eight years Heidi has been involved in various large-scale research projects, mostly focused on the topic of human resources for science, technology and innovation in South Africa. As a sociologist of science, Heidi employs both quantitative and qualitative strategies to investigate her main research interests, viz. women scientists and early-career researchers. Currently, she is leading a national, NRF-commissioned project on postdoctoral research fellows in South Africa.

She serves on the advisory board for a project of the Centre for Global Higher Education Research on Research (based at the University of Oxford) and represents South Africa in an expert group for a project of the OECD’s Global Science Forum.
