SCIENTIFIC BIOGRAPHY OF KÁLMÁN RAJKAI
His research areas:
- Correlation analysis of soil and water management properties; Development of pedotransfer
functions;
- Development and application of electric soil moisture measurement methods;
- Measurement and modeling of soil water circulation;
- Plant ecological aspects of soil water management properties;
- Study of the spatial pattern of soil water retention property;
- Development of electrical measurement method of root activity.
Since 1982, he has been supervisor of different Hungarian (e.g. 7 OTKA), 2 Austrian and 3 EU research programs.
In 1991, he was awarded the Academic Award for writing the soil chapters of the monograph Cadastre of the Small Landscapes of Hungary.
In 2000, he won the Széchenyi professorship, and participated in the development of the "Decision-supporting production models" subject at the Agricultural Center of the University of Debrecen. The material of the subject was published as "Agro-ecological models" student note in 2004. The electronic version of the note was accepted as a university textbook by the Ministry of Education. In 2002, he announced and taught PhD subjects of "Transport processes in soil and their modeling" and "Measurement and estimation in the use of models". In 2010, the Senate of the University of Debrecen recognized his activities with the title of private university teacher.
From 2001 to 2016, he was the head of the Soil Science Department of TAKI. He was elected as corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2016, and as regular member in 2022. In 2016, he received the Officer's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, and in 2017, he was awarded the Distinguished Citizen of Terézváros in Budapest.
