Dipl. Eng. Todor Nikolov Stoyanov, Ph.D. works as a chief assistant at the Forest Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the scientific-structural unit "Forest Ecology".

His main scientific field is "Forest Fires" (Wildfires). Other areas are ecosystem services, economic assessments, project preparation and other degradation processes in forests.

He also works in the field of forest certification, forest management, circular bioeconomy and forest legislation.

He is an honorary professor at the University of Forestry Sofia in the department "Economics of Animal Husbandry". He is an external PEFC expert at the executive agency "Bulgarian Accreditation Service" and a member of the technical committee “Environment”.

Dipl. Eng. Todor Nikolov Stoyanov, Ph.D. has participated in several activities: Changing Wildfires - Policy Options for a fire-literate and fire-adapted Europe of the European Academies' Science Advisory Council (EASAC); Wildland-Urban-Interface Fire Touristic Infrastructures Protection Solutions (WUITIPS); Global fire partnership; Innovation laboratories for climate action – ILCA.

He is involved in several projects funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST).
