Prof Eyob Habte Tesfamariam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences of the University of Pretoria. Prof Eyob H. Tesfamariam is an agricultural systems modeler with a research focus on sustainable waste water sludge use in agricultural lands, water, nitrogen, carbon, and contaminant dynamics in agricultural ecosystems, and the impact of climate change on crop and pasture production.

His current research emphasizes the environmental safety of biosolids use in agricultural lands in the circular economy, the impact of extreme weather events on maize production in South Africa, and the role of conservation agriculture on soil carbon sequestration and soil hydraulic properties. Prof Tesfamariam has participated in international multi-disciplinary and multi-country research projects including the European Union (EU) funded FP7 program, bilateral research projects between countries (Polish – South African), and national research projects funded by the Water Research Commission and the National Research Fund.

Prof Tesfamariam is a C2-rated researcher and has supervised and co-supervised several MSc and Ph.D. students to completion. In addition to co-editing a book and co-authoring two chapters, he has produced more than 40 scientific articles in journals with an ISI rating. His research findings have been presented at more than 70 scientific conferences. He is an associated editor of the Journal Urban Agriculture & Regional Food Systems.
