Prof. B.N. Upreti is an Academician of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and an internationally well-known Himalayan geologist. He taught in Tribhuvan University (TU) for 35 years and also served there as Head of Department of Geology and Dean of Science. In 2015 he was appointed as a Professor at the University of Zambia, Lusaka (2015-2019), and also served there as Geology Head and a Member of the University Senate.

He is also a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and Foreign Fellow of the Zambia Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Upreti has done extensive geological research in the Nepal Himalaya and authored and edited many books and published over 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals. His Google Scholar h-index is 34 and has over 7000 citations (as of September, 2024). He was a visiting professor in the universities and Institutes of China, France, Germany, India, Japan, and Zambia. He was an Adjunct Professor at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Prof. Upreti has also served as the President of Nepal Geologic Society.

Prof. Upreti was awarded and honoured with prestigious international awards including the C.N. R. Rao Prize for Scientific Research by TWAS, and Honorary Fellowship of the Geological Society of America and an Honorary Fellowship of the Nepal Geological Society.
