Matthew Wallace has been working in the science policy field for over a decade. He currently leads the implementation of a project on ‘Strengthening STI systems for sustainable development in Africa’ at UNESCO (Paris). Most recently he worked as a Senior Program Specialist at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), based in Ottawa, Canada, focusing on issues such as research excellence, science funding, science advice to governments, industrial research collaboration, and careers of scientists. Matthew has Masters' degrees both in Physics and in Science and Technology Studies, as well as a Ph.D. in the History of Science. His research in the field has focused mainly on indicators for science, research portfolio management, and the history of scientific disciplines. He also previously worked as a science policy advisor and an evaluation officer at a Canadian ministry and granting agency.
